Morning Breaks was given its first performance by the West Texas A&M University Band Camp High School Concert Band on July 18th, 2009 under the direction of David Wright.

While the title may suggest a programmatic work, there is no particular imagery used. However, the piece does sound as if one is waiting patiently to watch the sun rise over a vast horizon. In other words, Morning Breaks reminds me of a West Texas sunrise in which the horizon is so flat and you can see such a large area from left to right that you get an expansive view of the color and grandeur that accompany a sunrise.
